I wander if there was something lore wise they wanted to reveal in the comics, but then decided to instead reveal it in the comics. Because when the comics first came out, Tarsier had not planned for a DLC, but then the game got popular enough to warrant them making one. I think the most likely reason for cancellation was because of the DLC, maybe the comics were going to reveal something about the world that ended up getting revealed in the DLC.
